Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang Tells Trump 'We're Not Going to Let [an AI Slowdown] Happen'

Phoenix News — Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang took a phone call from President Donald Trump while onstage at the All-In Summit in Los Angeles on September 14, putting the call on speaker for the audience to hear.

Huang and the All-In hosts had been discussing Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei's call to slow the pace of AI development. Trump said on the call that such calls play "right in the hands of a lot of people that don't want to see it happen. That could be political people. It could also be China. And we're not going to let that happen. It's a hoax."

"You're right. We're not going to let that happen, sir," Huang replied as the crowd applauded.

Trump added: "We have to be a little bit careful … We have to do things and we have to do them prudently, but that doesn't mean we're going to stop an industry. So I'm with you all the way. We're going to lead."

The exchange highlighted the divide between AI leaders. SpaceX CEO Elon Musk and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman have publicly agreed with Amodei's call for caution, while Huang has taken a different stance. Recent Gallup polling showed that seven in 10 Americans oppose data center construction in their areas, with more than 50 percent citing environmental concerns and about 20 percent citing cost-of-living and quality-of-life concerns.
